Words on the Rise
Not to be alarmist or anything but…

Your next customer is talking to a chatbot about you.

What is it saying?

Let’s snoop that convo.

Google Did it.

It replaced rankings with recommendations.

For 28 years, winning in Search meant ranking higher, getting clicks, and making sales. That’s changed.

Now the goal isn’t ranking; it’s recommendations.

And increasingly, the copy that matters the most isn’t the words on your website—at least not directly.

What matters now is the words AI generates about you, on the fly, when someone is considering hiring you … or your competitor.

It’s a brave new world.

But here’s the good news—

You have a lot more control than you think.

Turns out, you can get chatbots to say pretty much whatever you want them to.

How I Optimize a Site for AI

The AI visibility system outlined below is done in house by me—a human with a PhD.

You quite literally cannot get these insights anywhere else.

Step 1: Ground Truth

I’ll read your site and interview you to make sure I fully understand your brand, your company, and your customers—what makes them tick.

Because AI isn’t the expert. You are.

Everything that comes next needs to be measured against the ground truth, and that comes from you.

Step 2: Real Research

Then I take everything I’ve learned form you and write a tailored, targeted, research-backed list of 50 to 100 prompts unique to your brand.

Prompts that mimic what your next customer is searching. Prompts like …

Then I collect the data—I log thousands of real chatbot conversations across three different AI models—AI Overviews, AI Mode, and ChatGPT.

Why? Because without real data, we’re just guessing. I never guess.

FYI—I use a purpose-built AI chatbot scraping tool I built myself (not vibe-coded) so that you and I can trust the results.

Step 3: Deep, thoughtful analysis

Coffee in hand, I read the results. I take notes. I count and measure and crunch the numbers.

I think deeply and figure out not just what the chatbot is saying, but why.

“We tried to do the audit with Claude Code before hiring you. Claude said a lot of things that were pretty obvious.
It didn’t come anywhere close to the humanity, the touch, the outside-of-the-box thinking your audit did.”
– Jake Kramer, Artillery Media

Step 4: Your AI Action Plan

Always human-written. Never templated.

I write comprehensive report for you on what I found in your results—what’s working well, what’s not, and what specific changes I recommend you make to your website and online presence to get even better results.

  • Delivered in plain English. Jargon free. With links to all the raw data, so you can see what I saw.
  • With explanatory videos that show and tell for anything tricky.
  • And with a link to book a call with me for a 45-minute “ask me anything” chat so that I can answer all your questions live.
“OMG!!! Mind blown. Holy spitballs Michelle – I have watched every video and can’t wait to talk this week!”

AI changed the game—
so I changed mine

For over a decade, I’ve specialized in small site SEO.

I use words to help Google understand sites, rank them higher, and play matchmaker between my clients and their ideal customers online.

Then AI happened. I wasn’t pleased. The way I saw it, the AI labs slurped up everyone’s ideas, summarized them, published it on their platform, and gave us a measly footnote. How rude.

But then, in October 2022, AI engines got access to the live search results.

And that’s when my SEO clients started telling me, quite excitedly, that they were getting their first customers through ChatGPT.

I needed to know more.

I started researching how AI search works, under the hood. I went deep—I read patents, research papers, books—whatever I could get my hands on.

The result of all that research is this service

I know how AI works.

And I know what it takes to optimize a small brand to show up better—much better—in AI search results.

In the last year, I’ve helped 16 different brands improve their visibility in AI search results. My AI visibility system is tried and tested.

How do I do it?

Like I always have.

I use words to make sure that AI engines understand your brand inside and out, so that it can reliably connect you with perfect-fit customers.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

What models & chatbots are included?

My AI visibility system is built to track and optimize for the 3 most important generative AI surfaces:

  • ChatGPT,
  • AI Overviews (the summary result that shows up at the top of most Google searches)
  • AI Mode (Google’s conversational chatbot, built into their search engine)

I always track these three because they have the most market share.

Claude is available as an add-on, and it makes sense to track and optimize for Claude for professional and enterprise audiences, where it has 20%+ usage.

Other chatbots (e.g. Perplexity, Gemini, CoPilot, Grok) have far fewer users. The juice just isn’t worth the squeeze.

(If you’re curious about the stats I follow to make these kinds of decisions, the source I trust on AI adoption is Datos’ quarterly “State of Search” reports).

How is this different than old-school, "normal" SEO?

AI search uses traditional search as an input. Put most simply, behind the scenes, chatbots are quietly Googling for you and summarizing what they find.

What’s different is in how we track it and what the results look like. In traditional SEO, it’s all about keywords and ranked results.

In AI SEO, there’s a new layer on top—the words layer.

This service is about optimizing those words—checking what the chatbots are saying today, then optimizing so that they act like a better salesperson for you tomorrow.

SEO Audit or AI Audit ... which one should I choose?

If your site is brand new or you’ve never paid attention to SEO before, you probably don’t need this service yet. What you really need is the same kind tried-and-true of SEO research I provide in my SEO Page Plans (for new sites) or SEO Audits (for established sites).

I can do AI optimization for any website, but the best-fit sites are those that have at least a little traction in Google already and want to make sure they’re set up well in the next iteration of search.

But don’t worry, you don’t have to figure out which one is best for your case. Just sign up for a free consultation with me. I’ll ask you some questions about your site and your goals and give you my honest take on whether you should focus on “regular” SEO or AI search optimization right now.

Can't I get this data by just asking ChatGPT myself?

One of the biggest differences between traditional SEO and AI SEO is personalization.

Put simply, you can’t just ask your chatbot if you’re trustworthy or recommendable and call it a day. That’s just not how the system works. Your chatbot is programmed to please you. It will say nice things about your brand to you, but that has no bearing on what it’s saying to your next customer. (I know—weird, but true.)

What you need to find out (and what I do in this service) is what other people see when they ask questions about your brand and your industry to ChatGPT and other AI engines.

Will I get to see all 4000+ chatbot conversations?

In your reports, you’ll get access to the full text of all the most illuminating AI responses, the ones that I took notes on to underpin your report, but I won’t drown you in all the data.

Unless you want it, of course. Some clients do find value in the full exported data set—perhaps to use it as an input to their own investigations.

I’m always happy to provide the raw data as an add-on to an AI visibility project, but it takes some massaging to get it in a client-ready export. It’s available as an add-on for $1000 USD.

Can’t I AI to do this for me? Who better to ask about AI optimization than AI ... right?

If only it were so easy, everyone would have done it already.

The truth is AI models are only “smart” because they trained on the internet. (All of it.)

Their recommendations (particularly when it comes to SEO) are only as “smart” as your average LinkedIn bro’s recommendations. Emphasis on average because, by design, AI produces averaged-out results.

I’ve been handed many of AI-produced SEO reports from people coming to me for a professional (human) second opinion.

Put bluntly, no matter how well you prompt them, AI models often make can make some quite terrible, you-really-shouldn’t-do-that recommendations.

Not just because they don’t understand your business and your website how a human does, but also because they trained on some rather hype-y, risky, short-term strategies.

So you could just ask an AI model how to optimize your site for AI. I won’t stop you, of course.

But if what you want is smart, strategic recommendations from a seasoned SEO who knows how the machine works and knows how to get it to do her bidding—get in touch.
